If your child is learning to play with other children, try to guide behavior if it seems rough (take the child’s hand and say, “Touch Jorge gently-he likes that”) and reinforce pro-social behavior (such as taking turns with toys or patting a crying child). If your child is using muscles in new ways, provide a variety of play materials (hard/soft, rough/smooth, heavy/light) and plan for plenty of active play indoors and outdoors. If your child is becoming independent, provide opportunities to make age-appropriate choices and have some control (the bread or the cracker, the yellow or the blue ball), and notice and give positive attention as new self-help skills and independence develop. If your child has teething discomfort, provide cold teething toys or safe, chewy foods. If your child experiments by biting immediately say “no” in a firm voice, and give him a variety of toys to touch, smell and taste and encourage sensory-motor exploration. Why do children bite and what can we do?Ĭhildren bite for many different reasons, so in order to respond effectively it’s best to try and find out why they are biting. Help the child make connections with others. Do not label, humiliate or isolate a child who bites.ĭiscourage play which involves “pretend” biting, or seems too rough and out of control. Notice and acknowledge when you like what your child is doing, especially for showing empathy or social behavior, such as patting a crying child, offering to take turns with a toy or hugging gently. Suggest the bitten child be seen by a health care provider if the skin is broken or there are any signs of infection (redness or swelling). If the bitten child is a guest, tell the parents what happened. Apply an ice pack or cool cloth to help prevent swelling. Observe general precautions if there is bleeding. Wash broken skin with warm water and soap. Offer the bitten child comfort and first aid. “You hurt him and he’s crying.” Encourage the child who was bitten to tell the biter “You hurt me.” Encourage the child who bit to help the other child by getting the ice pack, etc. Look into the child’s eyes and say calmly but firmly, “I do not like it when you bite people.” For a child with more limited language, just say “No biting people.” Point out how the biter’s behavior affected the other person. Use your voice and expression to show that biting is not acceptable. Stay calm don’t overreact, yell or give a lengthy explanation. It is important for parents to address biting when it occurs. Wax along with carnauba have a much lower melting point that what the steamer will put out so i would recommend a follow up on whatever area you will be using it on with a coat of wax plus whatever else you typically apply to your car.Biting is a common but upsetting behavior of toddlers. Steam unless held on the paint for a minute plus in one pinpointed area will not effect the paint. I use a hard bristled brush that came with my unit but within a few passes the HARD road paint is removed. OH almost forgot, the white and yellow road paint that you typically get on the bottom of your car and in the wheel well the steamer will soften and take off. I have been detailing for 14 years now and have added my steamer to my arsenal within the past 6 months, im not sure how i lived without it. I would recommend you check on the units power output along with the recommendedĪmperage as my unit requires a 20 amp circuit. The weekend warrior and enthusiast that will purchase the VX5000 for home use will be more than sufficient and a true asset to your garage. They say you get what you pay for and this is true to soe degree, if you are using this unit for hours a day as i do the more expensive unit is worth the investment. The unit is definitely more expensive than the VX5000 but compared to the other units that put out the same constant pressure it is approximately half of the other units price. I currently use the NV2300 that is made by Kleen Car out of Northern NJ. ![]() This is purely my opinion from experience with a steamer unit. I can honestly say that the pressure at 65psi is probably not going to make you happy. I have a steamer currently that has a constant 100psi with an overpressure that tops around 235 give or take.
